What is Dry Ice Blasting?
A modern, non-destructive cleaning method using solid CO₂ pellets.
Dry ice blasting is a cleaning process that uses small pellets of solid carbon dioxide (CO₂) accelerated through a nozzle by compressed air. When the pellets hit a contaminated surface, three things happen at once — and that's what makes the process so effective.
How It Works
Kinetic Impact
Pellets hit the contaminant at high velocity, dislodging it from the surface.
Thermal Shock
At -78°C, pellets cause contaminants to contract and crack away from the base material.
Sublimation
Pellets convert from solid to gas on impact — expanding 800x and lifting debris away.
Why It's Better Than Traditional Methods
| Method | Water | Abrasive | Residue | Safe on Electronics |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pressure Washing | Yes | No | Water everywhere | No |
| Sandblasting | No | Yes | Sand & debris | No |
| Chemical Cleaning | Yes | No | Chemical run-off | Risky |
| Dry Ice Blasting | None | No | Just the dirt | ✓ Yes |
Is It Safe for My Vehicle?
Yes. Dry ice blasting is non-abrasive at the pressures we use, which means it removes contaminants without affecting the base material. It's safe on factory paint, anodised finishes, chrome, plastics, rubber seals, electrical components, sensors, wiring looms — even labels and decals.
The process is so gentle on substrates that it's used extensively in aerospace, food production, electronics manufacturing and museum restoration — all industries where damage simply isn't an option.
Environmental Impact
The CO₂ used in dry ice blasting is a recycled industrial by-product — typically captured from other manufacturing processes that would otherwise release it into the atmosphere. So the process is carbon-neutral by design.
There's no water consumption, no chemical waste, no contaminated run-off — making it one of the most environmentally responsible industrial cleaning methods available.
